Frequently asked questions

What happens during a homeopathy consultation?

Your first consultation is an opportunity to really talk through what’s been happening with your health.

We’ll look at your current symptoms, your health history, patterns you’ve noticed, and other aspects of your physical and emotional wellbeing. I’ll ask questions that help me understand you as an individual, rather than simply focusing on a diagnosis or isolated symptom.

From there, I use your individual case to determine the most appropriate homeopathic approach.

For children, I’ll also take into account their temperament, behaviours, development and overall health picture, as well as what you’ve noticed as their parent.

How long is the first consultation?

Initial consultations are approximately 90 minutes.

This gives us plenty of time to go beyond the immediate complaint and properly explore your health picture.

Your initial consultation also includes your prescribed remedies.

What happens after my consultation?

After your consultation, I’ll provide you with the remedy or remedies that have been prescribed for your individual case, along with instructions for how to take them.

We’ll then monitor how you respond and make decisions about the next step based on what happens over time.

Homeopathy often isn’t about continually taking something. Sometimes the most important part is simply giving the remedy time to work and observing what changes and unfolds.

How often will I need a follow-up?

It depends on your individual case.

For chronic or constitutional work, follow-ups are generally scheduled around 4–8 weeks, depending on the situation and how you’re responding.

Acute situations may require a different approach.

The goal isn’t to keep you coming back unnecessarily. We follow the case and adjust the approach when it is actually needed.

Can you help with children?

Yes.

I see children for both acute and long-term complaints.

I work closely with parents to understand the child’s individual symptoms, patterns and overall health picture. Ideally during the consult your child would be present or available for responding to questions and for me to assess certain aspects but this is not completely necessary if the child is unable to come to the phone/screen or in person appointment. In these scenarios it is appreciated if a parent can send a photograph of the child and a photograph of their tongue.

For any serious, rapidly worsening or potentially life-threatening illness, appropriate medical care should always be sought first.

Do you only treat the symptom I’m coming to you about?

Not necessarily, and this is one of the things that makes homeopathy different.

If you come to me because of eczema, for example, we won’t necessarily look only at your skin.

We may explore your digestion, sleep, energy, emotional wellbeing, past health history, recurring patterns and other symptoms that may seem unrelated.

The aim is to understand the whole person behind the complaint. Often people will take a remedy for one thing and notice improvement in areas they didn't even mention in the consultation.

Can homeopathy help with chronic health problems?

Homeopathy is used by people seeking support for a wide range of longstanding and recurring complaints, including skin, respiratory, digestive, hormonal and other health concerns.

Chronic cases can involve much more than simply finding a remedy for a particular diagnosis. Constitutional and miasmatic approaches allow us to explore deeper patterns within a person’s health history.

These cases can take time, and everyone’s response is different.

Can I see you for an acute problem?

Yes.

Homeopathy can be used as part of your natural health toolkit for many everyday acute situations such as colds, coughs, fevers, digestive upsets, minor injuries, bites and stings and other sudden complaints. Having a selection of remedies on hand or easily accessible is ideal, second to this, every effort will be made to get your remedies to you quickly and most affordably.

However, homeopathy should never delay appropriate medical assessment or emergency treatment when this is required.

If you’re unsure whether something needs medical attention, please seek medical advice.

What if I’m already seeing a doctor or other health professional?

That’s absolutely fine.

Homeopathy can sit alongside appropriate conventional healthcare and other forms of supportive care.

I don’t ask clients to stop prescribed medication or discontinue medical treatment.

If you have an ongoing medical condition or take regular medication, it’s important that you continue working with your doctor or relevant healthcare professional.

Can I take homeopathic remedies while taking medication?

This is something we can discuss during your consultation.

I won’t advise you to stop or alter prescribed medication. If there are concerns about your particular medications or health circumstances, you should also discuss these with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do you prescribe the same remedy for everyone with the same condition?

No.

This is one of the fundamental principles of individualised homeopathy.

Two people can have the same diagnosis but completely different symptoms, personalities, histories and ways of experiencing their illness.

Their homeopathic prescriptions may therefore be completely different.

How quickly will I notice a change?

There isn’t one answer to this.

Some people notice changes quite quickly, particularly with acute complaints. Longer-standing health concerns can take more time and may require observation over a number of consultations. Many people have "layers" to their health concerns which need to be uncovered and addressed over time, healing with homeopathy is as fast as it needs to be. Rather than focusing only on whether one symptom disappears immediately, we look at the overall direction of your health and how your symptoms and wellbeing change over time.

What if my symptoms change after taking a remedy?

Changes following a remedy can be an important part of understanding how your case is progressing.

Sometimes symptoms may shift, improve, return or change in character.

If you’re unsure about something you’re experiencing, get in touch rather than guessing what to do next.

And if you experience a severe, unusual or concerning symptom, please seek appropriate medical care.

Do you offer support between appointments?

Yes, within reasonable limits.

If something changes or you have a question about your prescription, you can get in touch between appointments.

This doesn’t mean I’m available around the clock, but I don’t expect you to simply sit there wondering what to do if something comes up.

For urgent or emergency medical concerns, please contact the appropriate medical service rather than waiting for a response from me.

Do I need to know anything about homeopathy before my appointment?

Not at all.

You don’t need to know what a constitutional remedy is, understand repertories or have a homeopathic kit sitting in your cupboard.

Just come as you are.

My job is to guide you through the process and explain things along the way.

Do you provide the remedies?

Yes.

Your prescribed remedies are included with your initial consultation fee and will be provided with instructions for use.

Can I book a consultation just for myself, or do you work with families too?

Both.

You can book for yourself, your child, or another member of your family.

Each person is treated as an individual, even when several members of the same family are being seen.

What if I don’t know whether homeopathy is right for me?

That’s completely okay.

You don’t need to be an expert or even completely convinced before exploring it.

If you’re curious about whether homeopathy may be appropriate for your situation, you’re welcome to get in touch and we can work out whether a consultation is the right next step.

Is homeopathy a replacement for medical treatment?

No.

Homeopathy is a complementary system of natural medicine and should not be used as a replacement for necessary medical diagnosis, treatment or emergency care.

I will always encourage appropriate medical assessment when it is needed.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please contact emergency services immediately.

Still have a question?

If your question isn’t answered here, feel free to get in touch.

I’m always happy to clarify how consultations work and help you decide whether working together feels like the right fit.
